While he awaits trial on murder charges stemming from the shooting death of former semiprofessional football player Odin Lloyd, former University of Florida and New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez is under close investigation concerning a 2012 double homicide. Boston Police continue to tie Hernandez in some regard to the double murder but thanks to the releasing of brand new court documents this week, authorities are now eying the 2012 Pro Bowler as the possible triggerman in the deaths of Daniel Abreu and Safiro Furtado.

According to Boston.com, a Connecticut judge opened a search warrant affidavit allowing police to search a seized silver SUV they believe to be associated with the double homicide. The vehicle is currently located at the home of Aaron Hernandez’s uncle and as the affidavit states, police believe this SUV was used as the drive-by vehicle in the shooting deaths of the aforementioned men. “There is probable cause to believe that Aaron Hernandez was operating the suspect vehicle used in the shooting homicides of Daniel Abreu and Safiro Furtado,” the report said. “And [Hernandez] may have been the shooter.”

The affidavit also notes that due to an anonymous call in June of last year, police began making a connection between the 2012 double homicide and the shooting death of Odin Lloyd a year later. The caller -- identified in court documents as Sharif Hasheem -- told authorities that while he was working a security detail at a Boston nightclub, he realized the two shooting were related after “someone accidently spilled the beans in front of me.” Hernandez has not been charged in connection with the 2012 murders and is currently being held without bail at the Bristol County jail.
