Everything went according to planned as ESPN sports announcer Brent Musburger narrated the BCS Championship Game between Alabama and Notre Dame on Monday night.

In the mean time in the stands, Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron's girlfriend, Katherine Webb, distracted both Musburger and co-commentator Kirk Herbstreit's attention with her spellbound beauty.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, as Musburger singled out the former Miss Alabama, he said: "Well, I tell you, you quarterbacks, you get all the good-looking women! What a beautiful woman!," as ESPN's cameras panned toward Webb. Herbstreit replied: "Wow, AJ's doing some things right ... ."

And the veteran announcer went on, exclaiming, "So if you're a youngster at Alabama, start getting the football out and throw it around the backyard with pops."

All the attention Webb received has caused a series of complaints on Twitter, as critics mocked Musburger (and, of course, ESPN) as "creepy" and inappropriate.

Webb, 23, gained about 110,000 Twitter followers, raising her tally to 124,384 the next morning and also made the news roundup on the Today show, not to mention a series of media headlines online.

Webb -- a graduate from Auburn University, Alabama's football rival -- confirmed to be McCarron's girlfriend last month, telling the Ledger-Enquirer newspaper, "I'm not trying to sabotage Alabama."

"When you're a representative of the whole state, you have to kind of bypass your own feelings and love everyone," she stressed.

(Webb and McCarron's date happened at the 2012 Miss Alabama pageant last December. Although she now lives in LA; the couple made it official during the holidays.)

As for the game, Alabama would end up beating the Irish 42-14.
