Alma Muriel, who died at the age of 62 suffering from a heart attack, is now resting in peace. Her son Sergio Romo recently told Excelsior that the remains of her mother had been cremated as per her wishes. Now the family doesn't know where to disperse her ashes at sea or in a family crypt in the city. "It is complicated to make a decision like this, we are debating, my mother loved the sea and she came here to die," he said.

Muriel died in Playa del Carmen, a beautiful beachside community that she called home during her last couple of months living. "Although she also lived in Cuernavaca, her dream was to live by the sea, she didn't like the cold weather and in Quintana Roo the climate is spectacular," Romo said. Her decision to move to Playa del Carmen was influenced by her sister Virginia, who has lived in the beach city for years. Romo also mentioned that Muriel spent her last days writing a play about Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz that she planned on starring in.

Alma Muriel was a staple in Mexican novelas, best known for her villanous roles such as the iconic role she played in "El Extraño Retorno de Diana Salazar." In the melodrama she gave life to Lucrecia a woman that accuses an innocent woman (played by Lucia Mendez) of witchcraft during the Inquisition era. Centuries later she returns in the skin of a psychologist to finish off what her ancestors started. After this telenovela, other roles followed like in Yo Compro Esa Mujer," "Como Duele Callar" and "Atrapada." After those soaps telenovelas like "Si Dios Me Quita La Vida," "La Culpa," and "Azul" soon followed. Her last telenovela was in 2008 with "Fuego En La Sangre."
