Shocking revelations have come to light during the sentencing of Ariel Castro. Prosecutors filed a sentencing memorandum with the court exposing the gritty details behind the physical and psychological torture endured by his 3 kidnapping victims, Amanda Berry, Michelle Knight and Gina DeJesus.

Knight, Amanda and DeJesus were held captive in Castro's Cleveland home for over 10 years. And following the graphic memorandum, he has been officially sentenced today by the state of Ohio. Ariel Castro was indicted on over 900 counts of kidnapping and rape. He accepted a plea bargain of life in prison without parole plus an additional 1,000 years in order to avoid the death penalty.

Much of the report given to the court was compiled from personal diaries kept by the three young captives. Prosecutors state that their diaries "document abuse and life as a captive." Cuyahoga County prosecutor Tim McGinty admitted that Castro "serially abused them physically, emotionally, and sexually on a daily basis."

An excerpt of the memorandum shows the horrible nature which the brave women endured for 10 years. "The entries speak of forced sexual conduct, of being locked in a dark room, of anticipating the next session of abuse, of the dreams of someday escaping and being reunited with family, of being chained to a wall, of being held like a prisoner of war."

Some of the more horrific periods of captivity that were written in the survivor's diaries were exposed in the memorandum, including;

    Michelle Knight was forced to abort a pregnancy. When Castro learned she may be expecting, he only allowed her drink tea and starved her. To ensure the termination of the pregnancy he forced her to perform strenuous exercise while he was starving her.

    Following her forced abortion, Amanda Berry became pregnant with Castro's child and instead of torturing Berry Castro continued to torment Knight. Frank Ochberg, who provided an evaluation for the prosecutions memorandum added, "It was Michelle who served as doctor, nurse, midwife and pediatrician during the birth. She breathed life into that infant when she wasn't breathing." Knight successfully resuscitated the child who is now 6 while Castro threatened to kill her if she failed.

    The three women were not allowed out of their bedroom to use the bathroom, and had to resort to reliving themselves plastic toilets which were rarely emptied.

    Castro deliberately made the attic unbearably hot and the basement freezing cold as punishment techniques, he also carefully controlled the inflow of food and water to the three women.

    At one point, he locked his victims in a vehicle in his garage to hide them from a friend who was visiting for three days. To keep the women obedient and frightened of him, he told them he was "hunting for replacements" and claimed he had previously captured other victims.

    Knight who was kidnapped first by Castro suffered "the longest and most severly." Dr. Frank Ochberg revealed, "She interceded when Castro sought to abuse Gina, interposing herself and absorbing physical and sexual trauma. But each survivor had a will to prevail and used that will to live through the ordeal.

    The DailyMail reported that the purpose of the memorandum is to help establish a record that will serve as justification for Castro's sentence should it come under review in the future.
