Amar'e Stoudemire got married to Alexis Welch on Saturday, June 29, 2013 in Miami, Fla., according to the New York Knicks player's rep. The duo legally married on 12/12/12 in their New York City apartment, but waited till the summer to throw their dream reception at the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens.
"12.12.12 now has a special & spiritual meaning for us," tweeted Amar'e Stoudemire after marrying Alexis Welch on the roofdeck of their Greenwich Village apartment. The ceremony had 12 guests.
"This is fairy tale amazing down to every last detail," said a source to US Weekly, exclusively. Other guests that were in attendance include Carmelo Anthony, Tyson Chandler, Grant Hill, Timbaland, Swiss Beatz, and Spanx creator Sarah Blakely.
"The ceremony was beautiful," another insider told Us. "There wasn't a dry eye in the place. Amazing venue, food was awesome."
Sources also revealed that Alexis Welch wore a J'Anton wedding gown and an Oscar de la Renta reception gown while Amar'e Stoudemire wore a Calvin Klein Collection suit for the wedding and a Lanvin suit for the reception. The bride had six bridesmaids and the groom had 11 groomsmen.
1. Alexis Welch and Amar'e Stoudemire met in 2002 after Stoudemire was drafted by the Phoenix Suns and Welch was attending high school as a three-sport star in basketball, track and volleyball.
"Since we were both 19, they put us in a private room in the back of the club. He was wearing a Kansas City Chiefs Joe Montana jersey," says Welch to the New York Post. "I'm originally from there, so we started talking about Montana when he played there."
2. The two were young when they dated and went to a lot of movies.
"We were both really young, so we went to a lot of movies. I would make him dinner, and we would just spend time together. We would talk all the time," says Alexis Welch.
3. Alexis Welch is the mother of Amar'e Stoudemire's four children: daughters Assata and Are, and two sons Amare and their May-born son.
4. Alexis Welch and Amar'e Stoudemire got engaged in June 2012 in Paris after the NBA star presented Alexis Welch with a 8.5-carat diamond.
"We went back [to the room], and there were rose petals leading to a balcony with a 365-degree view of Paris. We walked out to the twinkling lights of the Eiffel Tower," revealed Alexis Welch. "He had an acoustic-guitar player. He had a saxophonist. This is another side of Amar'e that people don't get to see. I'm just getting teary-eyed talking about it."
