With Mexico's last 2014 World Cup qualifier game against New Zealand scheduled for mid-November, the Liga MX is back in action. On Saturday, Oct. 19 at 6pm EST, fans will be treated to a high-caliber matchup when América heads to the Estadio Azul in Mexico City to take on Cruz Azul, which will look to exact a bit of revenge on its rival after losing the 2013 Clausura final at their hands. Cruz Azul comes into Saturday evening's matchup occupying the sixth place in the Liga MX standings, tied point-wise with three other clubs - Morelia, Santos Laguna, and Toluca - with 23 in total. They've posted seven wins so far this season along with four losses and two draws, and will be trying to pull themselves up in the standings and lock up a playoff spot with a win against the Águilas. América, on the other hand, is sitting pretty already at the top spot of the Liga MX standings, with 31 points thanks to its 10 wins, a tie and a single loss.

But defender Israel Castro says he thinks Cruz Azul "has what it takes" to dethrone the reigning champs in the 2013 Apertura. "We have what it takes to look to win and keep up the highlights that the team has had," he told ESPN Deportes. "I'm confident that if we keep it up, we're going to get some good wins in the future." He added that as América poses a formidable challenge, "all of the games are a measure of how good we are". His teammate Julio César Domínguez agreed with him, saying "we can't rule ourselves out" for title contention. "I think we're pretty evenly matched. Both teams are pretty well staffed. But I focus more on my team. They're in the midst of a good moment and we see it and acknowledge it, but we don't rule ourselves out, because we've been playing well."

Since the arrival of head coach Miguel Herrera - who has reportedly just replaced Victor Manuel Vucetich as the manager of Mexico's national team - América has faced off against its crosstown rivals at the Estadio Azul five times, during which the two squads have come out more or less evenly, with two ties, one Cruz Azul victory, and two victories for the blue and white. But one of those victories, as Cruz Azul fans remember bitterly, came in the final for the Clausura 2013. Watch as the two squads face off at 6pm EST on Oct. 19 here.
