Actor Anton Yelchin has died at 27. Yelchin’s publicist Jennifer Allen confirmed his passing early Sunday morning after an alleged freak accident involving his car. “Actor Anton Yelchin was killed in a fatal traffic collision early this morning,” Allen said in a statement. “His family requests you respect their privacy at this time.”

The accident took place approximately at 1:10 a.m. at the actor’s home in Studio City, LAPD spokeswoman Jenny Houser told The Hollywood Reporter. “It appears he momentarily exited his car and it rolled backward, causing trauma that led to his death,” Houser explained.

Reportedly, after Yelchin missed rehearsal his friends went looking for him and found the actor pinned between the car and the mailbox outside his home.

The Hollywood community is mourning the young actor’s death, as did Paramount Pictures that released a statement: "All of us at Paramount join the world in morning the untimely passing of Antony Yelchin. As a member of the Star Trek family, he was beloved by so many and he will missed by all. We share our deepest condolences with his mother, father and family."

Yelchin was best known for his roles in “Star Trek,” Terminator,” “Like Crazy” and “Alpha Dog.” The actor’s former “Star Trek” co-star John Cho said he is completely devastated. “I’m in ruins,” he said.

“I'm having a hard time processing it,” said Yelchin’s “Like Crazy” director, Drake Doremus. Actor Aaron Paul also reacted saying, “I am utterly heartbroken about this terrible news. Anton Yelchin was a gift to this world. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.”

Below are some of the reactions from Yelchin’s peers and friends including Mexican director Guillermo del Toro, who said he worked with the actor for a whole year. “Anton was a sweetheart. Absolutely a great creative partner and artist,” del Toro tweeted.
