Downloading and installing Apple's iOS 7 beta on your iPhone or iPad can be a difficult task, but in this tutorial we will try to make it as simple as possible and best of all we will help you do this for free.

Apple usually only opens up their beta testing to users on their development team to try out software before it is open to the public. This tutorial will show you how to get the iOS 7 beta for free but we highly recommend it for app creators and software developers for two main reason. The first being that this is still in beta which means it will be buggy and some people may not want buggy software on their personal devices. The second reason is because this is Apple's rules and they do have their rules in place for a reason.

One more thing to note is that if you happen to have jailbroken your device you will definitely loose your jailbreak with this method.

Ultimately the decision to put the software on your phone is up to you of course. With that said lets jump into it.

Step 1. Back up your phone

Before doing anything it is very important to back up your phone to your computer. Open your iTunes and plug in your phone and look for the back-up button. In iTunes, "Back Up" can be found in the middle on the right. For iCloud, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Back Up Now.

Step 2. Download the stuff you need

Obtain the required software versions to install the iOS 7 beta download. Felixburns.de provides those downloads for you but make sure you download the right file for your phone. For example iPhone 4S users will need iOS 6.1.3 while iPhone 5 users need 6.1.4. Also be sure to note if the device is CDMA or GSM. Save the file somewhere you will remember it. We recommend your desktop.

Step 3. Now you'll need to download iOS 7

Jailbreakiosx has the files to download the Apple iOS 7 beta. Make sure to download the beta file that belongs with your exact phone model. Also save this file somewhere easy to find.

Step 4. Connect your device to iTunes and lets get started

Now here's where the fun begins. Connect your device via USB, open up iTunes. Once you see your device appear on screen, hold the Shift key on Windows or the Alt/Option key on Mac (very important) and then click "Restore." This will allow you to manually select what version of iOS you want to install. Be sure to choose the version of iOS 6 you downloaded in step 2 (also very important).

Step 5. Once it installs go through the menus

Once your device is recognized again, in iTunes click "Set up as new..." and NOT "Restore from this backup." Then hit continue; also make your way through the menus on your iDevice to get to the homescreen.

Step 6. Check For Update

Once your device is on screen again, similar to step 4, hold the Shift key on Windows, Alt/Option key on Mac and click on Check For Update. Now we will choose to install the iOS 7 beta download that we obtained in step 3. Click update.

Step 7. After waiting a bit.. You should be Successful!

Once your device has finished installing the beta, and restarted itself, you'll be greeted with the new lockscreen and homescreen. You'll be able to add back in your data from the backup you made earlier.

After everything is back on your iPhone or iPad you will be able to update to the latest beta by simple going into Settings>General>Software Update. Once that's complete you can enjoy your new iOS 7 iPhone or iPad.
