Thirteen years ago, New York City's Fifth Avenue was shut down for "the wedding of the year." Celebrities such as Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, Gloria and Emilio Estefan, Marc Anthony, Julio Iglesias and Jennifer Lopez were just few of the thousands of guests invited to St. Patrick's Cathedral to witness the holy union of one of the most prominent music executives, Tommy Mottola and Mexico's sweetheart, singer and actress Thalía. Crowds gathered around the cathedral to take a sneak peek of the bride's dress, a creation of Mitzy, and many loved to see how she got her fairytale wedding after all.
However, some skepticals weren't too convinced about the young and gorgeous Mexican star marrying this middle-aged guy who isn't the best good-looking man in the world and who already had two previous failed marriages. So the rumors began swirling around saying that Thalia was only marrying him for his money, that she didn't love him and she was using him to further her music career. Nevertheless, Thalia insisted, "This is the first time that someone loves me for who I am, for what I believe in, for my ideals. This is the first time someone tells me 'I support you.' This is something that was meant to be," she said at the time in an interview with People en Español.
The couple, who was introduced by Emilio Estefan on a blind date, is an example of two powerful people who love and support each other and know when to give the other their space to grow professionally without hurting their personal relationship. And after 13 years of marriage, they decided to renew their vows, promising again to love each other every day till death do their part. This time around, the couple opted for a more intimate ceremony at the main altar of the same cathedral that saw them say their vows for the first time on Dec. 2, 2000. Their two children, Sabrina and Matthew were also there witnessing their parents' love.
This has been a very important week for Thalía, who is set to receive the 2,514th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles, tomorrow, Thursday, Dec. 5. The Latin soap star will receive the recognition for her career in music and acting. As an actress she is best known for her trilogy of telenovelas where she portrayed a naive girl named Maria who falls in love with a rich guy. "María Mercedes," "Marimar" and "María La Del Barrio" are classic Mexican telenovelas that continue to be a hit up until this day in reruns. Her musical hits include "Amor a la Mexicana," "Arrasando" and "Piel morena." Thalía has also created a successful brand, marketing her own clothing and jewelry line. She has dipped her toes into the publishing world by releasing several lifestyle books including an autobiography, and most recently, the Latin diva released her first children's book titled "Chupie: The Binky That Returned Home."
