Asa Butterfield portrays the title character Andrew "Ender" Wiggin, who is the youngest child of the Wiggin family and finds himself a part of an Earth initiative to produce brilliant military officers, due to his intelligence and tactical genius. Following humanities explorations of the solar system, Earth was invaded twice by an alien race known as the Formics; however the alien race is dubbed "The Buggers" due to their incest-like appearance. After skipping several years of schooling, Ender is placed in Command School. Along with rigorous training, Ender is tested by Mazer with a war simulator.

Harrison For plays Colonel Hyrum Gruff who originally recruits Ender for Battle School will be played by Harrison Ford. "We need a new kind of solider, one who doesn't think the way we think, fear the things we fear, one the enemy would never expect," Hyrum says in the "Ender's Game" trailer.
