Jenni Rivera
Jenni Rivera was a Mexican-American singer-songwriter, actress, television producer and entrepreneur known for her work within the banda and norteña music genres. Rivera performed a concert at Monterrey Arena on December 8, 2012, in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon. When the show ended, she left the Arena along with her staff and departed from Monterrey International Airport. At approximately 3:20 a.m. a U.S. registered private Learjet 25 N345MC (manufactured in 1969) carrying two pilots and five passengers, including Rivera, lost contact with air traffic control near Iturbide, Nuevo León. The plane was en route to Toluca for an appearance by Rivera on “La Voz ... México”. All on board were presumed dead by Mexican authorities when the wreckage was found later that day with no apparent survivors. Reuters

New controversy surrounding Jenni Rivera's biopic. This time, director Francisco Joel Mendoza revealed a document signed by the late artist before her death that approves and gives the rights to Mendoza to produce and direct a movie about her life.

Rivera's family has been against Mendoza's project and has even threatened to sue the director if he shoots the film. To clear things up, he called a press conference where he unveiled documents demonstrating that he was entitled to make the movie.

He assured the movie was going to be "as real as possible" and also addressed some of the issues he's encountered with Jenni's family. "It's like nothing feels right to the Rivera family," explained the director, who also added that the Riveras have offended local productions by denying Mendoza their approval.

"I think they shouldn't be so offensive. Even Jenni participated in local productions before she was famous, and her dad too."

He proceeded to show for the first time the document that the late singer allegedly signed a week before she died in a tragic place crash. "It was an agreement between four people," said Mendoza about the document. Said agreement was about a documentary titled "La Diva de la Banda," but the director changed his mind and made it into a feature film.

"I have the copyright certification signed in Mexico and dated December 1, 2012. I couldn't have registered the script later. It was already done."

Francisco Joel Mendoza reassured that he was going to do this no matter what. "If I have to go to jail because I'm doing what I love, so be it. A big shout out to all the prisons."

The movie has already been cast and the title role goes to Deyra Barrera, a native from Sonora, like Jenni Rivera. She now resides in the U.S. and was selected from thousands of girls who showed up to the auditions held both in Mexico and the United States.

Production will shoot for 12 weeks between Mexico and the United States and is set to hit the theatres December 6, anticipating the first year anniversary of La Diva de la Banda's death.

This film seems to be totally unrelated to the one Alicia Machado is starring, since the former Miss Universe said she sat down with the Riveras to discuss her role. Alicia Machado starts shooting the other biopic of Jenni Rivera in August and even put on 15 pounds to look more appropriate for the part.
