On Wednesday night, actress Salma Hayek went on The Late Show with David Letterman to promote her upcoming film "Grown Ups 2."
David Letterman began asking the Oscar nominated actress if she visits Mexico and Hayek reveals that she went in April but is not able to go as frequently because she splits her time in the United States and France. They conversation steers to her daughter, 5-year-old Valentina, and Hayek reveals the young girl is fluent in English, French and Spanish and that as parents, they make sure she is in touch with her roots.
Hayek narrates an incident from this past Fourth of July when her daughter asked her mother what the American national anthem was since she knew both the French and Mexican ones. Hayek joked that she looked around to have someone teach it to her daughter, but only saw Mexicans with quesadillas.

She then explained that she had inadvertantly learned the American national anthem from the sets of "Grown Ups" and "Grown Ups 2" because her male co-stars always had American sports games in the back drop and as a result, she picked up the national anthem and was able to teach it to her daughter.
Hayek tells Letterman that she knows both the American and the Mexican national anthem and when asked by the late night host to sing it, Hayek begins singing it and after two lines she quits. Letterman asks her if she is good at the American national anthem, she replies, "I know it but I'm not good at it."
Letterman then asks the actress to sing the National Anthem and she sings it, warning that it won't be pretty and 80 percent accurate. A very nervous Hayek stands up and beautifully sings the American anthem.
