With the transfer window remaining open until the early part of September, multiple teams across the sport of soccer are exploring numerous ways to improve their clubs for the long 2013-2014 campaign.

One squad looking to finally build a strong foundation capable of winning championships is English Premier League affiliate Arsenal.

The club is coming off a fourth place finish in the EPL and without a league championship since the 2003-2004 season, manager Arsene Wenger and company hope they're able to land top-level players before the window closes.

Luis Suarez Still Coveted By Gunners?

Current Liverpool striker Luis Suarez remains a main target of the Gunners and even though the club is willing to pay a substantial price for the services of Liverpool's top scorer, ESPN UK indicates that Suarez's original release clause just went up to a price that may not be worth Arsenal's money.

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez will not be sold for less than £50 million after the Uruguayan accepted he does not have a £40 million release clause in his contract.

Arsenal believed they had triggered a clause last week by bidding £40,000,001 but were swiftly informed that the only significance of that figure was that the player was required to be informed of the offer.

Suarez had been tipped to challenge Liverpool's stance with the Premier League but the forward, who was his club's top scorer last season, has sought no action.

That leaves Arsenal needing to stump up Liverpool's asking price of £50 million if they are to prise Suarez away from Anfield.

Luka Modric A Hot Transfer Commodity

It remains to be seen whether or not any club will entertain the steep £50 million figure attached to Luis Suarez and should the Gunners elect to step out of the hunt for the prominent scorer, Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric may be another option.

The 27-year-old spent four seasons with English Premier League club Tottenham before signing with Real Madrid a year ago and because the Croatia native hasn't felt comfortable with his role at the Bernabeu, The Daily Star reports that Arsene Wenger may explore the somewhat disgruntled star.

Arsenal are preparing to join the race for Luka Modric. Sources in Spain suggest the 27-year-old has become a transfer target for Arsene Wenger, who has failed to land a big summer signing thus far.

Modric is said to be feeling unsettled at the La Liga giants, having been reduced to a bit part role under the reign of Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho.

The Croatian international first joined the Spanish side from Spurs for £33m in 2012, scoring three goals in 33 appearances.

Will Wayne Rooney Depart Old Trafford For Arsenal?

Wayne Rooney, 27, has spent the last nine seasons with Manchester United and despite achieving a tremendous level of personal and team success, Rooney may be on the move since first-year head coach David Moyes hasn't promised Rooney a spot with the first team and because terms of a new deal have not been discussed.

"There are no contract renewals that are being discussed," Manchester United executive vice chairman Ed Woodward told BBC Sport recently. "I am not sitting down with any player on an extension and there is no trigger date in the diary. Would we be afraid to run a contract down? Of course not."

While Arsenal has been in discussions about the possibility of bringing Rooney to the Emirates, Jonathan Birchall of Goal.com is reporting that the 2008 and 2009 England Player of the Year has a greater probability of landing with Chelsea even though David Moyes has previously indicated the player is not for sale.

Rooney, who has been in rehabilitation at the club's Carrington training base following a hamstring injury sustained two days into United's pre-season tour of Asia and Australia, has agreed in principle to join Chelsea for £200,000-a-week.

Moyes, however, insists that the 27-year-old is not for sale under any circumstances and the Premier League champions have dismissed an offer of £20 million from the Stamford Bridge outfit.

Now, the pair will sit down for talks this week. Moyes is set to reiterate that he wants the England star to remain a United player, while Rooney remains intent on leaving.

With the transfer window open for another few weeks, expect these names and others to keep popping up regarding possible moves.

Arsenal is clearly set on improving upon last season's Premier League finish and the acquisition of any of the above players would certainly help the Gunners become a serious contender in the ultracompetitive EPL.
