Jonathan Rhys-Myers returns to American television in the new NBC drama "Dracula." Rhys-Myers will play the iconic blood sucking fiend known as Dracula. Dracula is the patriarch of the vampire line and the inspiration behind every vampire tale from the original "Dracula" by Bram Stoker up to Anne Rice and yes even Stephanie Myer. NBC writes about their show: "From the producers of the critically acclaimed, Emmy Award-winning hit "Downton Abbey" comes "Dracula," a twisted, sophisticated and sexy take on Bram Stoker's classic novel, proving that some stories never die. One-hour drama."
Fans of Johnathan Rhys-Myers will no doubt recognize him from the popular Showtime period drama "The Tudors." Rhys-Myers played the young, vibrant and often times tyrannical English King, Henry VIII. The show was based around the young Henry VIII before he became the fat, misogynistic, old man history has come to know. The series won Jonathan Rhys-Myers a Golden Global for his portrayal of the notorious King. "Game of Thrones" actress Natalie Dormer starred alongside Rhys-Myers for two seasons of "The Tudors" as Anne Boleyn, the ill-fated second wife of Henry VIII.
"Dracula" premiers October 25 on NBC and will also feature actors Oliver Jackson-Cohen as Jonathan Harker and Jessica De Gouw as Mina Murray/Ilona. The NBC "Dracula" story will focus on the love the hundred-years old vampire feels for Mina Murray. When Mina first meets Dracula at a party in Victorian, England he is going by the name Alexander Grayson. After Mina is introduced to Grayson she tells him she feels as though they have already met. Grayson agrees and instantly there is a flash back to what looks like medieval times.
Dracula a.k.a Greyson is being held by armed guards while screaming. He is anguished over the fact that Mina is being tied to a post in order to be burned at the stake. So it seems that the present day Mina may be the reincarnation of Dracula's medieval love. Dracula has disguised himself as an American businessman coming to London in order to bring modern science, such as electricity to the high Victorian society. The cover is meant to hide his real purpose, revenge. Dracula is looking to get back in with the Order of the Dragons. These are the same people that cursed him with immortality centuries earlier.

The show will feature a variety of other characters, including the famous vampire hunter Van Helsing played by Thomas Kretschmann. Unlike recent vampire movies the "Dracula" TV show appears to be keeping with the traditional characteristics of the vampire. Dracula is vulnerable to the sun, thirsty for blood and able to influence anyone that looks into his eyes. Will you be tuning in on October 25?
