"Vampire Diaries" returns on Oct. 3 for Season 5! CW

Less than one month remains till the Oct. 3 Season 5 premiere of "Vampire Diaries." And with Elena and the crew graduating high school and heading to their freshman year at college, fans should expect some steamy parties, sexy love scenes and obviously vampy drama. "Vampire Diaries" executive producer, Julie Plec has been revealing some ne plot lines for Season 5 and fans will not be disappointed!

Plec told Entertainment Weekly Season 5's premiere episode will be titled "I Know What You Did Last Summer." The title alone gives me the spooks, the episode will be a stylistic take on a recap, showing fans just what their favorite characters were up to after their high school graduation. "We found a stylized way to show the audience how things went over the summer, what everybody was up to," Plec explained.

And while episode 1 of Season 5 will mostly focus on the summer, the Mystic Falls crew is in for a wild ride as they embark on their next journey at Whitmore College. While most series have a tough time moving their characters from high school to college, "Vampire Diaries" is up for the challenge. The original cast will stay intact with a cohesive story line, despite Elena's enrollment in college she will still be a frequent face in Mystic Falls. Damon is still living in Mystic Falls with Jeremy, which allows new characters from Whitmore to meld well with original cast from the supernatural town.

As for the distance between Elena and Damon, will it be too much for the on-again, off-again couple to handle. "Damon and Elena have been having hot lovin' sex," Plec said of the couple's summer. So even after graduation, the pair is still going strong which gives fans hope for the future of the relationship. But apparently love isn't all you need, Elena and Damon may be in love but they still have serious issues to overcome. "The biggest hurdles in their relationship come from external sources, people, ideas, notions that are trying to say they're not supposed to be together," Plec told EW. "It's really going to be more about them fighting to prove that they should be together and its okay."

As for heartbroken Stefan, it seems like things can't get much worse. At the end of Season 4 fans were shocked when Silas exposed his true self thus revealing Stefan as his doppelgänger. Silas then threw Stefan in a safe and trapped him at the bottom of the lake, with little hope of rescuing himself. "Poor Stefan has just been on the quarry floor in that safe, drowning over and over again all summer long," explained Plec to Wetpaint.com. "So he's struggling, to put it mildly, and hopefully he won't have to struggle for much longer because his loved ones will realize that he's missing. But until that happens, he's just screwed."
