Cote de Pablo signs on to play a role in a new CBS miniseries. CBS

"NCIS" fans are still trying to get over the shock after it was announced in July that Cote De Pablo would be leaving "NCIS" at some point in the show's eleventh season. Pablo played the hardcore Mossad officer for eight seasons of the hit CBS drama. She replaced another female charcter, Kate played by Sasha Alexander who decided to depart the show and was killed off. Ziva became a fast fan favorite and her replacement no doubt has some big shoes to fill.

It has now been confirmed the Ziva will depart "NCIS" in a two part episode after her character builds up an arch leading to her departure from the team. Producers and writers did what they could to keep Cote De Pablo on the show, even reportedly offering her a lot more money but Pablo declined steadfast in her decision to leave. While producers support the actress' decision to leave "NCIS" fans have not been so gracious when it comes to Ziva's departure.

"NCIS" executive producer Gary Glasberg wrote an open letter to fans of the show explain what they should expect in the two part episode depicting Ziva's exit. "I did not plan on the departure of Ziva David. We've been busy the last couple of months making this work and handling the situation," Glasberg writes. "Now I've finally 'come up for air' and I wanted to reach out to you, the greatest fan base in the universe and fill you in on what's coming, how we are feeling about all this, and assure you we're doing some really terrific work and feeling confident about moving on."

The letter from Glasberg continued by thanking fans for their concerns and support while also letting fans know Cote De Pablo's departure was just as surprising to them as it was to all the "NCIS" fans. Glasberg also thanks the loyal fans who stuck with "NCIS" for all of its' 234 episodes. The executive producer also reminded fans that TV shows come with change. "So let's get back to the elephant in the room: the departure of Ziva David," Glasberg wrote. "Like I've said multiple times we respect Cote's decision immensely and wish her all the best."

"The amazing resolution you're going to see is pretty damn heart wrenching and we're incredibly proud of it," Glasberg said in the letter. "Prepare yourselves for a moment in television history. Images that will end up in the archives. I couldn't be happier with how my "NCIS" family stepped up and did some of the most emotional work we've ever done." Season 11 of "NCIS" will premiere on CBS Tuesday September 24.
