"Homeland" Season 2 ended with a serious cliffhanger, Brody was on the run and Carrie was hiding her involvement in his escape. So as "Homeland's" Season 3 premiere date looms, fans are in store for even more drama, in the words of Damian Lewis, "Brody has entered one of the ninth circles of Hell." At the close of Season 2, Brody's exploded at the CIA via a planted bomb, killing more than 100 people. Brody narrowly escaped, with the help of Carrie, however it seems both characters are still in turmoil at the start of the new season. "It's very sober in tone in the beginning of the third season," said Claire Danes, who plays CIA officer Carrie Mathison.

"[The agency is] really are facing the consequences of having failed to anticipate that attack and the devastation obviously was profound and they're in a time of shock still and real mournfulness," she said of the start of the award-winning Showtime series. "They're grieving and I think Carrie feels, she felt responsible for 9/11. [And] boy, does she feel responsible for this incident!" Carrie is an emotional character who has had felt betrayed by the CIA, despite her overwhelming devotion to the agency and her country. Danes, has said that her character's future in Season 3 is unexpected and shocking. "We're still in the middle of it, but I am just like gobsmacked by what these writers are capable of," she told Access. "And... I don't know where it's going to end still! That's what's so fun. It's on this careening train that is off."

Lewis echoed Danes comments regarding Carrie when he discussed his character Brody, revealing that his future is rather bleak and uncertain. "You're going to see a guy who's on the run. He is... the most wanted man on the globe, and I think the question is, 'Has Brody been taken care of by the ex-filtration process and the CIA, or has he been abandoned?'" he told Access. Lewis does reveal that the chase for Brody is on, and despite his best efforts there is really nowhere to hide. Regarding Brody's journey through Season 3, Lewis stated that there are "Two questions you can ask yourself. So where will they find him and what condition will they find him in?"

A major theme of Season 3 while be the parallel lives between Carrie and Brody, they are certainly contrasting due to Brody's current fugitive status but Lewis reveals their connection is due to their shared characteristics of being two "broken-winged birds." The show which is based on an Israeli television series, "Prisoners of War," will return to Showtime on Sunday, September 29th at 9 p.m.
