The "Dark Knight" is jaded and so is Ben Affleck? Warner Bros CEO Kevin Tsujihara recently admitted that Batman, in the still unnamed sequel to "Man of Steel", is "kind of tired and weary and seasoned and been doing it for a while." Tsujihara went on to say how despite the fan reaction and backlash, Warner Bros. thinks Ben Affleck "is perfect for the vision....We think it's going to be huge." Did he just call Ben Affleck tired and weary? Sounds like yes.
Producers are looking to build a more jaded Batman in the next "Man of Steel" installment, much like the superhero portrayed in Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns." Miller's 1986 graphic novel tells the story of Superman intervening in Gotham after a cynical and merciless Batman returns to his city after coming out of retirement. And according to the Warner Bros. chief, Affleck fits the part.
Affleck will replace Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne alongside Henry Cavill as Superman. In addition, Amy Adams (Lois Lane) and Diane Lane (Martha Kent) will reprise their roles in the Zack Snyder-directed sequel of "Man of Steel." The "Argo" director will be the eighth actor to play Batman, however most fans agree that Bale was the best at portraying the iconic comic book character. Bale admitted that he is ready and willing to pass along the role to another actor. "It's a torch that should be handed from one actor to another," he said. "So I enjoy looking forward to what somebody else will come up with." Now that Ben Affleck has been cast as the next Batman, the film is scheduled to start shooting in 2014, and has been slated for a July 17, 2015 release.
Tsuijihara also discussed DC Comics future business ventures and its progress, he stated that the sequel of "Man of Steel" is one example of how his DC Comics unit "really does tie to all parts of our business." Warner Bros. has seriously hit the ground running with the success of their animation of the classic DC Comic stories, with three animated TV shows based on DC characters, and plans to develop and produce "two huge games" in this year alone. The CEO added that "I love the way our slate is positioned going forward." With opportunities in television and home video, "we're confident we can grow this business."
