“Vampire Diaries” fans are getting a double dose of fun tonight, with the series premiere of “The Originals!” “The Originals” is a spin-off series inspired by a family featured in the “Vampire Diaries.” The new series centers on the original vampires, the Mikaelson siblings. As the first line of vampires in existence, all vampires are descendants of them. Meaning they are significantly more powerful than any vampires created after their original transformation. The series will focus on the journey of three Mikaelson siblings, Klaus, played by Joseph Morgan, Elijah, played by Daniel Gillies, and Rebekah, played by Claire Holt.

The series premiere “Always and Forever” gives the audience a glimpse of Klaus’s journey back home to New Orleans, where his search for power will bring him back to a fight for his kingdom. Fans of “Vampire Diaries” have some serious background knowledge on Klaus and his powerful siblings, but his latest quest is a direct result of life changing news. Klaus is expecting a child with Hayley, a werewolf and recurring character on "Vampire Diaries." Following the acceptance of his child, Klaus states that because "every King needs an heir." Which is horrible news for his protégé Marcel, who now rules New Orleans in his absence. Klaus departed from the city after being chased down by his father Mikael, while he was building a vampire empire, with the throne seemingly abdicated, Marcel took charge.

Now Klaus has set out determined to retake his role, and his home while providing a life for his family and unborn child. The child is the first to be born of a hybrid -- part vampire, part werewolf -- and a werewolf. Klaus is considered the original hybrid, he was fathered by an unknown werewolf and turned into a vampire through a curse created by his mother Esther, who was a witch. While Klaus is certainly the protagonist of the series, the series premiere will be told through Elijah’s perspective.

And as if his quest for power wasn't enough, the mother of his unborn child, Hayley, has fallen into the hands of powerful witches. Klaus will have to rescue Hayley in order to save his family, but something goes awry, and it is not just because of witches and their damned spells. Hayley has a secret, another suspicious interaction will take place between Elijah and Marcel. Klaus and Elijah are supposedly working together to retake New Orleans but in “Always and Forever” Elijah will meet with Marcel, Klaus’s evil protégé. Elijah seems to be trying to negotiate a deal in order to make his brother the city’s new king, but it will cost him. Elijah agrees to provide Klaus’s blood for a dead witch’s body? Could the body help them recuse Hayley, and just how much of Klaus’s blood does Marcel require?

There are a lot of unanswered questions with “The Originals,” be sure to watch the series premiere “Always and Forever” tonight, Oct. 3 at 10 p.m. on the CW. And if you are just too distraught following “Vampire Diaries” to watch be sure to watch episode 1 online at CWTV.com.
