Aracely Arambula has landed the lead role in a telenovela adaptation of Victor Hugo's classic novel, "Les Misérables." The announcement of the project came during a press conference in Cannes during MIPCOM, a trade show where television distributors show off their latest projects. "We are very proud of this project, which is another brilliant production that will carry our brand, and we anticipate it will have excellent results," Marcos Santana, President of Telemundo Internacional said at the event. "Telemundo is the only Spanish-language company that leads in this type of melodrama-genre offer for international markets."
Valentina Parraga, who adapted "La Patrona" and "La Reina Del Sur" will tackle on the adaptation of the French novel. "This Les Misérables adaptation is in pre-production and will be filmed entirely in Mexico - a country which will provide sceneries for this story that cannot be found anywhere else," Joshua Mintz, Executive VP of Fiction Programming and General Manager of Telemundo Studios said. "Soon, we look forward to announcing the full cast of this production, as well as the directors, producers and team members that will have a part in its success."
Telemundo is presenting "La Patrona" at this year's MIPCOM, Aracely's hit project that proved to be a success in the U.S. and Mexico. "The Return" as it is known in English, is losely based on Alexandre Dumas "The Count of Monte Cristo" and both stories share a very similar plot. The Hispanic network is trying to capitalize on the great results that Arambula scored with her latest soap and make a similar project with this adaptation. "Los Miserables" will have the actress play the role of a courageous woman who is hiding from her family and pursuer as she is accused of a crime she did not commit. The Hugo classic will be set in modern times and take place in a contemporary society, highlighting social injustices and the struggle of good versus evil.
News of Aracely's new project comes after rumors of the actress starring in a remake of "El Cuerpo Del Deseo" that Lorena Rojas, Mario Cimarro and Andres Garcia starred in 2005 for the Telemundo network. In recent weeks it was also annoucned that the Mexican actress broke up with the telenovela heartthrob Sebastian Rulli after a year long relationship.
