“Game of Thrones” Season 4 is going to be interesting to say the least. The forthcoming season is either going to make or break the HBO series, and with recent reports “GOT” fans may be in for a large surprise. “Game of Thrones” is based on the “A Song of Ice and Fire” book series, written by George R.R. Martin, and the acclaimed author has voiced notable concerns over the direction of the show. Show runners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have worked hand in hand with GRRM for the TV adaption of his epic fantasy novels, however it seems that after three seasons of telling the original story line, that time may be over.

An issue that will plague Season 4 is that each character of the series is not featured in every book, the series is told in the third person by point of view characters, whose number reaches 31 by the fifth novel. And while the show already boasts the largest ensemble cast on TV, there are several more major characters to come. However, Season 4 will deviate from the original plot, it would be impossible to tell the story if not. Unfortunately for Season 4, it seems like GRRM’s prolonged plots and character relationships will be quickened and eventually wrapped up before being fully allowed to develop.

The next issue that concerns me with Season 4 of “Game of Thrones” is a recent casting of the “Three-Eyed Raven.” British actor Struan Rodger will play the three-eyed raven. A few things concern me about the casting; first the name is wrong; the name within the GRRM series is the “Three-Eyed Crow” not “Raven.” Crows are incredibly significant in “Game of Thrones” and “A Song of Ice and Fire” representing death, Men of the Night’s Watch, White Walkers, and even the North in general. With such vital symbolism it astonishes me that Benioff and Weiss would change the name of the character, which isn’t even a known character yet. Brandon Stark doesn’t even reach the haunted forest or North of the Wall till book 5 “A Dance With Dragons” so his casting for Season 4 indicated more divergence for the original plot-line.

The “Three-Eyed Crow” first appears to Bran in dreams, although he is still a literal bird and not yet a human. However, after a long journey beyond the Wall and into the North, Bran meets the human form of the “Three-Eyed Crow” who introduces himself as Brynden, however he is less of a human and more of a creature. Brynden is the last greensear, he teaches Bran about greenseeing and skinchanging. Bran is fed weirwood paste, which awakens his greenseeing gifts. Although powerful, readers are still unaware of whom the last greensear was in his mortal life. Many fan theories claim that Brynden is Brynden “Bloodraven” Rivers, the Targaryen Great Bastard. Comment below and let us know what you think, is the “Three-Eyed Crow” Brynden Rivers?
