If you're looking for Episode 6 of Fox's new series "Sleepy Hollow", which normally airs on Monday nights, you'll be out of luck on October 28. Ichabod Crane and Lt. Abbie Mills won't be back in action in Season 1 for another few weeks, as the show is on hiatus until Nov. 4. But the Associated Press reports that the actual town of Sleepy Hollow, New York is seeing plenty of action related to the series: tourism to the town has leaped, sparked by fans of the Fox show. The AP writes that restaurants are reporting bigger crowds than normal, and the village's tourist website sees a huge uptick in visitors after each episode airs. It notes that the increase in tourism is exactly what the village had in mind when it changed its name in 1996 to capitalize on its status as the setting for the Washington Irving short story which the series is partly based on, "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow". The village is considerably smaller in real life than that which appears on the show - 10,000 people live in it, as opposed to 144,000 in the fictional version.

The show has seen overwhelming success with its mash-up of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" and another short story from Irving. In it, Ichabod Crane, an American soldier who's fighting in the Revolutionary War, staggers off the battlefield and falls asleep in a cave near the New England town before awaking some two hundred and fifty years later to find the world on the brink of destruction. Another perhaps unwelcome surprise is in order: he might be humanity's last hope, as signs keep mounting that the threat facing Sleepy Hollow might be the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. In tandem with police lieutenant Abbie Mills, he tries to unravel a mystery which goes all the way back to the founding fathers. This has been a winning combination for the show's creators thus far. Its premiere episode brought in 10.1 million viewers and a 3.5 rating, which made it the number one primetime drama that evening with adults aged 18-49. And only three episodes into its debut season, Fox announced that it would be renewed for a second season, with another 13 episodes. The next one, "Join, Or Die," airs on Fox at 9pm EST on Nov. 4.
