Juan Pablo Galavis The Bachelor
Juan Pablo may not be enjoying his time as "The Bachelor," this week for episode 9 he and the remaining 3 ladies go on a romantic trip to St. Lucia, for their overnight dates. And while this vacation certainly sounds like a recipe for romance, host Chris Harrison teases more drama, than romance. ABC

Poor Juan Pablo, I guess it’s not easy being “The Bachelor” and having 26 women vying for our attention, or at least that’s what Chris Harrison is saying. In week 8 of “The Bachelor” competition, Juan Pablo left the splendor of the Miami mansion behind and visited the final remaining ladies in their home towns. Now with Renee eliminated after last night’s emotional rose ceremony, JP and the three girls jet set to St. Lucia for their highly anticipated and exotic overnight dates. However, while most men would leap at this opportunity, Harrison explains that the hometown dates and the overnight dates were not an easy or necessarily enjoyable experience for the first Latino bachelor, mainly due to the language and cultural barrier.

With “The Bachelor” concluding its 18th season with Juan Pablo, loyal host Harrison has seen his fair share of eligible bachelors, however he explains this season was much different from its predecessors. Harrison stated that Juan Pablo’s final weeks as “The Bachelor” were hard on him emotionally, “The last three weeks were as difficult as we've ever had on this show. Maybe the most difficult.” When prompted why JP’s time was more grueling than past leads, Harrison explained that JP wasn’t as willing to open up to the women as contestants, and they unfortunately sensed that. (Maybe that’s why Sharleen eliminated herself.) While ABC loved to promote JP as the first Latin bachelor, the difference in culture and language could have been a major factor why JP had a hard time finding love on the TV series, Harrison explained, “I don't know if it is a cultural difference and a language barrier. He didn't know the show as well as people who have been watching it for 10 years and could just slide easily into that role. I think it made some of them question his motives and if he is here for true love because they are not seeing and hearing it as much as they have in the past.”

Speaking of Sharleen and her shocking self-elimination, Harrison claimed that her leaving really shook JP’s confidence, which deeply affected not only his relationship with Sharleen but also the other remaining women. JP allegedly began to question “The Bachelor” in general and if the women were there for the right reasons, Harrsion said, “Essentially, he was dumped. That hurts your ego and confidence. Suddenly all those insecurities -- 'Are they all going to leave? Do they really love me? Where is this going?'-- come to the surface and make you question everything. He's only human. It rocks the foundation. We've all fallen for that person that didn't fall for us.”

As for tonight’s episode, fans should prepare to see a lot of drama, tears and of course sexual tension as “The Bachelor” embarks on overnight dates. With Andi, Nikki and Clare left, all three of the women are deeply invested in their relationship with JP and can see themselves building a future with him, so the second-to-last Rose Ceremony will be a difficult one. Harrison teases, “There are some ugly cries and emotional moments ahead. The people left are 100 percent into this and there's a lot on the line.”

Watch “The Bachelor” tonight on ABC at 8 p.m. ET to see what happens during the overnight dates!
