28-year-old center back Thiago Silva is widely considered one of the best defensive players in the game of soccer.

Spending last season with Ligue 1 affiliate Paris Saint-Germain following 3 years in Milan, the Rio de Janeiro, Brazil native is being linked to a possible move to Barcelona to join the likes of Lionel Messi and Neymar.

According to Yahoo Sports, close friend and Brazilian national teammate Adriano - who also plays for Barcelona - believes Silva desires a move to Camp Nou even though he's only spent one season in Parc des Princes.

He told me if he could come to Barcelona would be a dream. He has always wanted to wear the Barca shirt. We are friends and I talk a lot with him. His arrival would be very good news if Barca signed him.

If it were up to Thiago, he'd be here. But it doesn't just depend on him. PSG has also invested heavily in him and, if Barca wants him, it needs to find an agreement with the club.

We had more injuries last year than other seasons but these things happen. Whomever comes in to help us will be a welcome addition.

Despite the apparent longing from Thiago to join the four-time UEFA Champions League winners, Thiago's agent indicated on his Twitter page that a transfer from PSG to Barca is not currently in the works.

"Thiago Silva and his agent Paulo Tonietto deny the information referring to the transfer of the player to Barcelona," Tonietto posted through his account.

Fans at Camp Nou would certainly love to have one of the game's premier defensive players and according to Give Me Sport, Barcelona and head coach Tito Vilanova are very close to reeling in Silva. Reportedly drawing up the first draft of a five-year deal, Barcelona is just waiting for a time when formal negotiations with the player and Paris Saint-Germain can begin.

It is also believed that Thiago would need to take an earnings cut from his current deal with PSG in order to complete the move to Barca. Silva signed with Paris Saint-Germain for €42m a year ago and the Ligue 1 club will most likely not allow him to transfer for less than that fee.

Recently captaining Brazil to a FIFA Confederations Cup title over Spain, Thiago Silva will remain a hot topic of discussion heading into the 2013-2014 club season.
