Boxing fans could be looking at an incredible 2017 given the circumstances.

With Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao out of the picture, boxing fans are waiting to see who the “next one” will be, particularly in the welterweight division. Notables such Danny Garcia and Keith Thurman are poised to break out as well as middleweights Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin, better known as Triple G.

Garcia’s and Thurman’s teams already have a “mutual agreement” to square off in early 2017, which should be a fantastic bout. Garcia made his welterweight debut against Paulie Malignaggi in 2015, and he’s one of the most athletic fighters in boxing today. Thurman on the other hand is one of the most powerful boxers in the world today, which is why he has been dubbed “One Time.” Garcia and Thurman have a combined professional record of 59-0.

Thurman recently took to Twitter to take a few jabs at Garcia criticizing his lack of worthy opponents.

Garcia posted this in September.

But it doesn’t end there. “Swift” believes he will not only defeat Thurman for the WBA Welterweight title, but Garcia is confident enough that he can follow that up with a victory over Canelo Alverz.

“At 154? I think that’s a possible fight. That’s the next fight. Yeah, I’ll fight Canelo. I’m not that big. He’s a big boy, but I think that’s a good fight. That’s a big money fight. Yeah, I’m a way better fighter than that guy [Liam Smith]. I think I’d beat him, yeah. I’d beat him. I’ve never been beaten. Every fighter’s got flaws. No fighter is perfect. I’m not fighting God. He’s just a fighter. I’ve got to get past this guy [Samuel Vargas], and then of course, Thurman. The Canelo fight isn’t even in my mind, but that is a fight I’d do in the future,” said Garcia.

Wow. That’s a mouthful.

Garcia certainly isn’t the same size as Alvarez, but it would be an interesting match. Interesting, yes, but probably more unlikely than we truly desire. Garcia would have to jump up (again) another weight class, and Alvarez still has to prove his doubters wrong by taking on Triple G.

The thought of a Thurman vs. Garcia, Garcia vs. Alvarez, AND an Alvarez vs. Triple G fight possibility in 2017 is enough to make any boxing fan cancel dinner plans, but we’re not going to pencil it all in just yet.
