Living as an immigrant in the U.S. chas it difficulties and with Donald Trump's promise to deport many immigrants, tensions are very high. While many people may have their own views about immigrants, one artist has decided to pay homage to those who give a lot to this country.

According to FOX News Latino, provocative Cuban-born artist Carlos Martiel, who specializes in extreme performances that have included pinning medals to his chest and receiving blows inside a punching bag, has decided to pay tribute to Haitian immigrants.

The site reports that in an interactive performance at the CIFO, the entirely nude artist served for 25 minutes as the fourth leg of a table on which numerous Haitian dishes were placed for sampling by the public.

"It's a metaphor for what emigrants to this country are giving, because I think they're giving a lot," the 27-year-old artist, who lives in New York, said. "From my standpoint as a Cuban, I want to analyze the situation of other emigrants who remain in the shadows for years," he said, referring to the special legal status afforded Cuban migrants who make it to U.S. soil.

Stating that his works are aimed only at expressing his ideas, for a brief time Martiel's performance was part of the CIFO gallery's "Toda percepcion es una interpretacion: You Are Part of It" multinational exhibit, which named him as one of the most important performance artists in Latin America.

"I'm not offering my body to society because that's something for martyrs, but I do offer my ideas," he told EFE in an interview in Miami, where this week he presented a sampling of his peculiar artistic expression at a gallery.

Martiel came over to Miami from Venezuela where one of his pieces showcasing him spending a half-hour inside a punching bag suspended from a ceiling, allowing people to strike him with their fists, a work that calls attention to government-protected thugs.
