The richest man in the world thinks you’re working too much, could this be? The Mexican telecommunications mogul, whose fortune exceeds the $80,000 M, thinks life would be better balanced if we only worked three days per week; this way, employees would have more time to spend more time enjoying themselves with their families and would have more time to prepare for a better performance. “You should have more time for yourself during your life, note until you retire at 65,” Slim told Christine Romans from CNN Money. For this, Mr. Slim suggests longer workdays, specifically 11 hours, and prolonging retirement age to 75.

Something from this theoretical change rings true, since it’s coming from the self-made, richest man in the world (alternating with Microsoft founder, Bill Gates). Slim also suggests that, in a way, it is a waste to not work from ages 60, 65 and 70; “It is a wisdom society; you have much more experience at these ages.” Slim is the living example of work-life balance as he continues to work while tending to his hobbies, including his and his late wife’s, Soumaya Domit, love of art at the Museo Soumaya.

While Slim got everyone excited with the mere mention of considering a three-day workweek during the summer, he has yet to announce when that would effectively start. However, the 74 year-old tycoon did assure the public that he has no doubt it will become a reality in the future. He already has exceptional policies for his contract workers at Telmex, who can retire at the age of 50 if they joined the company in their late teens and can continue to work for full pay four days per week. Now if only he’d agree to raise salaries proportionately to inflation.
