A 17-year-old was killed in Loudoun County Virginia on Friday morning. Danny Centeno-Miranda, who moved to the U.S. in 2013, was on his way to school and just 50 yards away from his bus stop, when he was shot in the back. He died at Inova Fairfax Hospital later that day.

Loudoun Sheriff’s Office announced on Saturday morning that they had arrested three male suspects from Sterling, Virginia. Henry Dominguez Vasquez, 20, Juan Aguirre Zelaya, 18, and a 17-year-old, whose name was not released because he is a minor, have been charged for the crime. Authorities determined that the men were undocumented immigrants and possible involved with the MS13 gang. According to investigators, the youngest felon fired the shots that killed Centeno-Miranda.

The victim’s neighbors said Vasquez and Zelaya lived in the same apartment complex and would often engage in fights. She also expressed her suspicion about it all being gang related, “They would always have fights with different people around the neighborhood. Everyone said the he [Centeno-Miranda] never wanted to be in the gang and the reason he came to America was to escape from that,” the woman, who chose to remain anonymous, told NBC Washington news.

Centeno- Miranda came to the U.S. in 2013 to live with his aunt, uncle, and cousins. He left his home country, El Salvador, to escape danger and find a better life. “He was quiet, humble, and artistic,” his devastated family told The Washington Post.
