Netflix, the world’s leading internet television network, announced the biographical series "The Day I Met El Chapo: The Kate del Castillo Story." The show will debut exclusively on Netflix October 20, 2017.

The three-part series is the biographical account of Mexican actress, Kate del Castillo, telling her side of the story using never-before-seen footage and exclusive details of what led to the infamous meeting between one of the world’s most notorious drug lords, Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzman, a Hollywood star and one of Mexico’s most famous television actresses.

“As an actress I’ve been given the opportunity to portray fascinating fictional characters, roles I am very proud of. Now I get the chance to tell my story, my reality, my truth. This project will dive into how it began, why I pursued accepting the rights to the life story of one of the most controversial narco figures and what happened after,” said Kate del Castillo, protagonist and executive producer of The Day I Met El Chapo.

“I was extremely excited to delve into the craziest 'life imitating art’ saga I’ve ever heard, a story wrapped around a core of complex social and political issues. I’m honored that Kate gave me the opportunity to tell her truth,” said David Broome, series creator and executive producer.

The series is produced by 25/7 Productions and Kate del Castillo Productions. The executive producers include David Broome, Yong Yam and Kate del Castillo. The director of the series is Carlos Armella.

Del Castillo was under investigation since Hollywood actor Sean Penn revealed their secret meeting with the Sinaloa cartel leader while he was still a fugitive in an article published by Rolling Stone magazine on January 9, 2016.

Later that year, The New Yorker published the first interview in which the actress tells her side of the story. “See, I just do things, and I never see the consequences,” the telenovela star told journalist Robert Draper.

In a very detailed break down of the happenings published by Proceso, Kate narrates her encounter with “El Chapo.” “La Reina del Sur” starts by specifying that the reason behind the gathering was always the intention to discuss the possibility of a movie, TV series or documentary project with Guzmán.

Now, in "The Day I Met El Chapo," Kate will explain how she first got in touch with one of the most wanted men in the world, how she felt and if she feels safe now.
