Disney has announced that the end of its Disney Infinity line of games and accompanying figurines has arrived. After June, Infinity will stop getting new updates. Disney is also shutting down Avalanche Software, which is the studio responsible for Infinity resulting in around 300 people losing their jobs.

In a blog post, senior vice president of Disney Infinity John Blackburn thanked fans for supporting the game and called the decision to discontinue the series "difficult." Blackburn wrote:

"By now you may have heard the news that we have made the difficult decision to discontinue production of Disney Infinity. From the beginning, Disney Infinity was built for you--our fans--and I wanted to take a moment to thank you not just for your support over the years, but for creating a community that made Disney Infinity more than just a game.

Our goal for Disney Infinity was to bring the best of Disney storytelling to life in homes around the world, and with your support we accomplished that. We hope you had as much fun playing the game as we had making it."

The blog post further goes on to say Disney is still planning to continue licensing their properties to other video game publishers but will no longer make their own console video games.

The news to discontinue the Disney Infinity game comes just two months after the company announced that there will be no new edition of Infinity this year.

As Kotaku reports, Disney boss Bob Iger said on a call with investors that "the risk had caught up with" his company and they were pleased with the success of the first Disney Infinity, but sales declined after that.

On a call with investors this afternoon, Disney boss Bob Iger said that “the risk had caught up with” his company and that they were pleased with the success of the first Disney Infinity, but sales went downhill after that.

"[The video game] business is a changing business," Iger said. "We did not have enough confidence in the business in terms of it being stable enough."

Before the series ends for good, there are still two Disney Infinity releases coming in May and June. One will be based on "Alice Through The Looking Glass" and a second from "Finding Dory."
