GERMANY – Carlos Tevez had a brace and Alvaro Morata added the insurance goal and lower seeded, Juventus easily defeated Borussia Dortmund 3-0 to advance to the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.

Coming into the game, the Italian club had the momentum and a goal advantage in their favor with a 2-1 lead on aggregate. Dortmund needed just one goal to tie the match on aggregate and secure the only away goal that would send them to the quarters, but it was not to be as Juventus scored early and often throughout the match.

Italian national team goalkeeper, Gianlugi Buffon, was stellar in net as he kept a clean sheet for Juventus, making two big saves early in the match to keep the advantage with his side. Italian defender, Giorgio Chiellini, who is most recognizable for being the victim of Luis Suarez’s infamous bite in the World Cup, played tremendously in the back line for Juventus, making numerous goal saving tackles.

Patrice Evra found Tevez in the opening minutes of the match as the Argentina native smashed a shot from outside the box and into the top left corner of the net to give Juventus the tying away goal they needed and a 3-1 lead on aggregate. Tevez’s strike was stunning and occurred just 131 second into the match.

The second half of the match was much of the same with Juventus once again putting tremendous offensive pressure on Dortmund. Tevez broke through in the 70th minute and was one-on-one with the Dortmund keeper before passing off to Morata who was wide open in the center of the box.

Minutes later, Tevez took a Roberto Pereyra pass and slotted it right down the center for his second goal of the game, to go with his one assist. Tevez singlehandedly dominated the game as he was involved in every goal and easily could have had the hat trick on Morata’s goal if he hadn’t chosen to pass to his teammate rather than shoot over Dortmund’s keeper Roman Weidenfeller.

This may have been Borussia Dortmund’s last chance to make an impact in the UEFA Champions League as they are all but guaranteed to be absent from the league next season after a terrible start to the 2015 season.
