María Consuelo Loera Pérez, also known as Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzman’s mother finally broke silence and spoke about her son’s arrest. This is the first interview she has given in almost a decade. Doña Chelo, as known by her neighbors and close friends, said in an interview to Univisión “We raise our children and in the end they make their own decisions on how they want their life to turn out. I am his mother and he will always be my son. I will always be his mother.” She loves her son unconditionally no matter what, just like any parent would do. No matter what he does in life as she said, she raised him but he chose where he wanted to end up in life and he chose being a drug lord. She wants her son to find God before it's too late. “He already experienced what is out there in the world, so now he has to look for God, because God is the only one that can protect him and help him to sort out his problems,” she said

She lives a very simple life, she is very hospitable and presumes to be religious. Her son on the other hand lived a luxurious and not humble life. She remembered the death of 5 of her 11 children, one of the most recognized and known was the one of Arturo Guzmán Loera, who was murdered on December 24, 2004 in the jail of Altiplano. The last interview she gave before this one was in 2005 after the arrest of Miguel Angel Guzmán Loera during her daughter’s 15th birthday party.

She was interviewed by Univisión in her house in Sierra de Badiraguato in La tuna, where she lives in Mexico. Watch the interview here.
