'El Hotel De Los Secretos' Finale
Compare and contrast Belen's death from the original "Gran Hotel" series with the Mexican remake "El Hotel De Los Secretos." Televisa

Univision is airing the "El Hotel De Los Secretos" finale tonight. Leading up to the last episode, one of the major characters died. Belén (Ilse Salas) was a maid at the hotel who was always frustrated with her life. She envied the rich and one day promised herself to climb up the social ladder and instead of serving the guests of the hotel, she would be the guest.

Belén was completely dishonest and all her lies caught up to her and she was about to get arrested. Instead of facing the consequences of her actions, she jumped off a cliff to her death. Although her decision was extremely random and out of character, it was shocking and unexpected. She left her baby behind, a baby she said she cared for the most, but in the end it seemed like she cared for herself even more.

The scene provided us great opportunity to compare it to the original series "Gran Hotel." In the latter series, the set up was in the woods, where you could see the ocean in the background. The beautiful backdrop with the waves crashing was a nice view. The Mexican adaptation set it up on a very rocky cliff, with a lake in the back. On "Gran Hotel," all of the characters were feet away from each other, which made it look like someone could actually try and stop Belén from commiting suicide, while on "El Hotel," everyone was far away making it impossible to even come near her. Watch and compare the scenes below and tell us which one you prefer!

Ilse Salas gave life to Belén, the maid at Gran Hotel. She was described as fairly attractive but also treacherous and dishonest. She was Diego’s mistress, but when she found out she is pregnant, she used the innocence and love Andrés felt for her to manipulate him and avoid being fired from the hotel. Belén was a cold and calculating woman to the extent that she sold her child to Teresa since her ambition was stronger than the love she may have felt for her baby. She has always longed for a better life in which she did not need to work. She wanted a man who provides for her, so she never hesitated in allying herself with anyone who can get her some benefit. Belén was arrogant and continually confronted Ángela, with whom she fouhgt for the love and attention of Andrés.
