El Dasa returns to "El Vato" for Season 2. Universo

Returning for Season 2 of the hit Universo show is El Dasa that stars on "El Vato." The dramedy follows the Regional Mexican star and his unconditional friends Mariana (Cristina Rodlo), El Pollo (Gustavo Egelhaaf) and Brandon (Ricardo Polanco) as they face challenges with humor along their journey to achieve the American dream. "El Vato" Season 2 premieres on Sunday, August 27 at 10pm/9C on the Universo network.

On this new season, the scripted dramedy inspired by music star El Dasa's incredible real life story follows El Vato (El Dasa) and his friends as they continue fighting for their dreams in Los Angeles, in pursuit of a coveted spot in the Regional Mexican music world. After signing a contract, El Vato realizes he is trapped. Lolo Lozada (Horacio Castelo) the owner of his contract, only signed him to stop him from competing with other ‘Norteño’ singers in his record company. As usual, El Vato’s friends will accompany him on these adventures. El Vato will have to face people who want take him down, juggle various love interests and do the impossible to continue the fight with his friends. In addition to the fun-filled adventures, viewers will get to enjoy musical collaborations by El Dasa who composed the series’ music including “El Hijo del Desierto”, “Soy Norteño” and “Ya me vi.”

Dasahev López Saavedra, known as his stage name El Dasa, is a popular Regional Mexican artist that rose to popularity after being discovered by Vicente Fernández. El Dasa was Vicente's driver when the latter was performing in Los Angeles. Pressured by members of the legendary singer's mariachi band, El Dasa sang in front of "Chente" and he invited him to sing at his concert in LA. From then, the rest is history. El Dasa is now starring in a show losely based on his life as a singer.

For El Dasa, starring in his own show was a dream come true. “Dreams do come true and to be honest I never imagined I would be acting on a TV series inspired on my real life experiences," El Dasa said in a statement. "I’ve always had huge dreams, envisioned myself singing on the most important stages around the world and I still can’t believe it. I am honored to work alongside renowned actors and colleagues. This challenge is a great blessing and hope audiences tune in to watch NBC UNIVERSO (now Universo) because we poured our hearts and souls into this production."

During the Season 1 finale El Vato’s reckless behavior reached a breaking point that jeopardized his relationships and career. In the last episode of the season, Vato tries to come to terms with Wendy’s unexplained death as the anticipated night of Premios Nuestra Gente, a well-known music awards show where Vato is scheduled to perform, finally arrives. Feeling abandoned and consumed by grief, El Vato tried to pull it together and give the performance needed to catapult his career to the top.

Casti of "El Vato" Season 1 included a stellar cast like Cristina Rodlo (Mariana), Gustavo Egelhaaf (El Pollo), Ricardo Polanco (Brandon). Supporting cast includes Itatí Cantoral (Wendy), Arcelia Ramírez (Tía Eli), Horacio Castelo (Lolo) and Mauricio Martínez (Marcos), who plays El Vato's rival.
