Manlio Fabio Beltrones the PRI coordinating senator, has assured the Mexican public today that the bill proposed by his party will in no way criminalize users on Social Media nor attack their freedom of expression. "Nothing will attack the liberty with which people manage social media, that's what social media is for - so that we can express ourselves freely, whether we like it or not, but liberty itself cannot be restrained," he said in an interview today.

Beltrones revealed that his party had made some considerable modifications to the bill presented to the senate to "avoid any confusion." When asked atout the discrepancies in the bill regarding the regulation of the Internet, he insisted that members from all parties in the senate had listened carefully to people's concerns in the media and on social media and as such the bill itself was being altered. He emphasized that legislation will not be passed if it in any way impinges on the freedom of expression on social media.

"We are fighting delinquency, but not in telecommunications reform, we are not trying to alter the interests of those that legitimately and legally access the Internet without restriction," Beltrones Rivera continued. He highlighted that "the constitutional and legal reforms are not seeking to harm anyone - they are trying to improve access and services while lowering costs. He also revealed that if the laws are passed, the country could see them implemented as early as 2015.
