Donald Trump’s insults towards Mexico and Mexicans have probably been going on for years, but this year’s Oscars seem to have set him off completely. The real estate mogul said, amongst the many derrogatory comments, “Mexico is totally ripping off the US. Our politicians are dummies!” He later announced his candidacy for president and proceeded to continue insulting all immigrants, the Latino community and Mexico. His comments have come at a high cost, as many powerful celebrities have decided to cut ties with Trump, and most importantly, Mexican network Televisa, NBC and Univision have decided to drop any relationship with the mogul.

Actress and activist Eva Longoria had remained silent about the matter because she didn’t want to give Trump more attention than what he’s getting, but she responded when E! Online asked and also posted her opinion on social media. “What I don't think he understands and what people don't understand is words create emotional poison,” Longoria explained. “That's what they do, they create emotional poison.” She also says the backlash was to be expected because words can be extremely powerful and will have consequences. “Hitler moved a nation with words, just words,” she insisted.

Longoria later thanked NBC for cutting ties with the mogul and showing the importance of the Latino community. “At NBC, respect and dignity for all people are cornerstones of our values,” NBC said in a statement. “Due to the recent derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants, NBCUniversal is ending its business relationship with Mr. Trump.”
