Carter
Could Carter's biological father David be involved in her kidnapping plot with Lori? A new theory suggests so, find out more! MTV

Season 1 of “Finding Carter” has pretty much taken the world by storm, the series that premiered on MTV this summer has already been renewed for a second season. Carter is a teenaged girl whose world was literally turned upside after discovering that her mother, or who she assumed to be her mother, is actually her abductor. Lori, her supposed single mother, abducted Carter at age 3 and the pair has since been living together as mother and daughter.

One night after attempting to break in to a carnival, Carter is held at the police station waiting for her mother to pick her up. Although Lori never arrives, Carter’s biological mother Elizabeth comes to finally retrieve her daughter after 13 years. The plot is intriguing and with the midseason finale about to occur it seems like the story is about to get all the more interesting. Carter’s abduction story has always been a bit confusing, and her kidnapper/mother Lori has insisted that there is more than meets the eye with her abduction. A new theory from Bustle suggests that Carter’s biological father David may play a larger role in the abduction than fans/police/and Carter originally considered.

At this point, fans believe that David and Elizabeth were both devastated when they lost their daughter so many years ago. And while tragic, the event has aided David’s career as an author considerably, now with her return David is actively planning a follow-up novel chronicling Carter’s new life with her biological family, despite his daughter specifically forbidding him to do so. Actor Alexis Denisof who portrays David revealed that Season 1 will showcase a darker side to his character and fans will learn some “interesting and surprising things.”

One theory believes that David may have played a role in Carter abduction do to a resentment for Elizabeth, his wife and her mother and his deep ridden insecurities. Before writing and publishing “Finding Carter” David struggled as a writer, being supported solely by his wife. His wife’s career is not the only bone of contention David has; he is also jealous and insecure of her family money, which helped keep the family afloat. Knowing this and David’s desire for success and validation it is a possibility that David went to great lengths, in the process sacrificing his daughter.

One theory states that David could have hatched a plan with Lori, who was also in need of cash. The plan would be simple have Lori allegedly “kidnap” Carter, and demand a ransom form Elizabeth’s wealthy family who would quickly pay up to secure their granddaughter’s safe return. Then once the payment is complete, Lori and David would half the cash between them and Carter would return home. Obviously the plan went awry, however David still benefited not only in his career but also financially. What do you think about this “Finding Carter” theory?
