Nigeria takes on France in a second round match on Monday in a 2014 World Cup Second Round match up in what should be a very lively match. The match is being played in the Nacional in Brasilia.

France has powered its way into the second round with relative ease taking first place in its bracket in the first round. Nigeria on the other hand had to kick, scratch and claw to make it out if its group narrowly beating out Bosina-Herzegovina for the last slot.

Aside from the fact that the Nigerian squad has recently had to deal with a major internal financial controversy regarding player bonus’s which required its Nigerian President Jonathan Goodluck to step in to settle matters, the Nigerians will have their hands full with a powerful French squad that will be ready to go. How much of a mental effect this financial distraction may have an effect on the squad going into the match will only be seen but it’s certainly not something that you as a club want to have going into a match of this magnitude.

France is loaded with gun powder with deadly striker Karim Benema who already has three goals and two assists in the tourney coupled with a very talented midfield and tough defense that should make matters difficult for Nigeria for the duration of the match.

If Nigeria is going to compete in this match, it is going to have to play a one-two touch game and move the ball much faster as the French side will be very tough to break down. The Nigerians have the skill and speed but must play a discipline match of one-two touch which is going to be one way to break down the defense of Les Blues and get the points on the board. France did have trouble with Ecuador playing to a 0-0 tie so anything is possible.

Expect Nigeria to start on a high note and if they can keep that concentration for ninety plus minutes they can win this match but any breakdowns will and can be costly as the French are a side of talented individual players that can take advantage of any weakness.

I expect a good match from both sides but do predict that Nigeria will squeak out somewhat of an upset. I predict a 2-1 final score, with Nigeria winning.

My prediction: Nigeria wins 2-1
