Season 4 brought House Martell to King's Landing, in particular Oberyn Martell aka "The Red Viper" and his paramour, Ellaria Sand. Season 5 will bring fans to Dorne. HBO

“Game of Thrones” is coming back, and soon! I really love writing that phrase after months and months of speculating on a release date, now we officially now that April 6 is set to be the Holy Grail of all days because Season 4 of “Game of Thrones” is premiering. And as if the approaching release date wasn’t enough to get excited, based on the trailer and behind the scenes first look we think it’s set to be the best premiere episode of the series yet. The premiere episode will set the tone for the high paced and constantly changing Season 4, with more intense plots and a heck of a lot of new characters, there are big changes occurring in Westeros. New marriages will create new alliances, deaths will ruin past ones, and never before seen ruling families of Westeros will serious shake up King’s Landing.

Oberyn Martell

Oberyn Martell is set to be a new face in King’s Landing coming to “Game of Thrones” for Season 4, in addition to fans fawning over his impressive bone structure, the audience and characters alike will soon realize that Oberyn Martell is more than just a pretty face. Coming to the capital in place of his brother and Lord of Sunspear, Doran Martell, Oberyn is better known to the realm as “The Red Viper” for his impressive skills with a rumored poisoned spear and his quick witted tongue. And while the Lannister’s invited the Martell’s to the small council with a seemingly friendly invite, Oberyn arrives in the capital with only one thing in his heart-vengeance. The Martells and Lannisters are better acquainted than fans of the epic fantasy series realize, the two families encountered another during the Sack of King’s Landing. Oberyn and Doran, are the brothers of Elia Martell, the former wife of the crown prince Rhaegar Taragryen, and mother of Rhaenys and Aegon. During the now infamous sack of the capital, Elia was brutally raped and murdered by the Lannister’s sworn knight, Gregor Clegane. In addition to the death of Elia, another Lannister knight, Amory Lorch viciously murder the couple’s young son and daughter, as they were deemed a threat due to their high birth.

Ellaria Sand

While Oberyn certainly has vengeance in his heart, the less hardened part of his heart brings along another new face to Kings Landing. Oberyn invites his paramour Ellaria Sand to accompany him at court, while not popular in Kings Landing, Oberyn has no issue making his unabashed passion for his lover clear. In addition to Ellaria, who is the mother of his four youngest bastard daughters, Oberyn has 4 elder daughters from four separate and now former paramours. The 8 bastard daughter are known through the realm as “The Sand Snakes,” for their birthplace of Dorne and due to their likeness to their “Viper” father, who deeply cares for them.

Gregor Clegane

While fans of “Game of Thrones” know the name “Gregor Clegane” they have never had enough time to fully learn the true history of the Lannister’s “Mad Dog.” In Season 4, Clegane will claim a main role similar to that of his younger brother, Sandor Clegane. Who loyally served the Lannisters, and more specifically the young King Joffrey before deserting his role as bodyguard and Lannister knight after the Battle of the Blackwater. However, Gregor is still in king’s Landing and still serving the Lannisters. He and Oberyn Martell will eventually face off in Season 4.

Ser Donnel Waynwood, Lady Anya Waynwood, Bronze Yohn Royce

All three of these new characters hail for the Vale, and are sworn to House Arryn. Meaning Season 4 of “Game of Thrones” will take fans to the Eyrie and back to Lysa Arryn, Catelyn Tully’s sister. Last we heard of Lysa and the Vale, Littlefinger was leaving the small council to sail to the destination in an attempt to woo Robert Arryn’s widow and eventually marry her, which would lead Littlefinger to become the King of Mountain and Vale, Warden of the East, Lord of the Eyrie and Defender of the Vale. Season 4 will certainly be interesting to see how power is won or lost in the multiple kingdoms entangled in the seemingly endless game of thrones.

Daario Naharis

Now I know he is not totally new character for Season 4, but Daario has be recast with Michieal Huisman. Huisman is best known for his role of Sonny on the HBO series "Treme." Daario is the love interest of Daenerys Targaryen, his role and screen time will significantly increase come Season 4. Dany will abandon her immediate quest for the Iron Throne and settle down as the ruling queen of Meereen, and while Daario will certainly not rule beside her, he will share he bed. In addition to Daario, another Daenerys Targaryen central character has been cast, Hizdahr zo Loraq will be coming to Season 4. Readers of George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Fire and Ice” series know the significance of these two male roles.
