It was a very surprising night for Alejandro González Iñárritu’s first comedy, “Birdman” and not necessarily in the best sense. The film was expected to take at least three awards of its seven nominations, including supporting actors Emma Stone and Edward Norton, Best Picture, Comedy or Musical and potentially Best Director but that was not the case for the Mexican director’s picture. However, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association did award Alejandro González Inarritu, Nicolas Giacobone, Alexander Dinelaris Jr., and Armando Bo, for best screenplay and Michael Keaton took the award for Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical, which gave both the actor and the director a chance to praise about how wonderful it was to work with each other.

Wes Anderson's eye-candy masterpiece “The Grand Budapest Hotel” took the Globe for best comedy, beating González Iñárritu’s “Birdman” amongst other favorites, and Richard Linklater took the prize for best director home for his 12-year movie, “Boyhood.” Actor and Golden Globe winner of the night, Michael Keaton said in an interview with E! Entertainment afterwards that “the table was hurt after Alejandro [González Iñárritu] had lost, and they needed a big win.

It will be interesting to see how the movie fares in the Academy Awards as the race is extremely tight and the categories reduce for the biggest night of the year in Hollywood.
