"The Good Wife" is returning for Season 5 on Sunday, September 28 on CBS at 9:00 PM ET/PT. CBS has revealed the synopsis of Season 5 Episode 1: "Alicia works to prevent the execution of a convicted murderer as she plans her exit from the firm with Cary; Eli helps Peter put together his staff." If you miss the season premiere, then catch the live stream of the episode on the CBS website for free the next day or on Hulu. The Season 4 finale showed that Carey (Matt Czuchry) showed up at Alicia's (Julianna Margulies) door and she tells him she wants to leave the firm to create a new one with him. This decision means she will have to betray her mentor, Will (Josh Charles). Julianna Margulies told E! that she was glad it wasn't Will at her door. "I would not have been happy if it was Will," Margulies admitted. "They didn't tell me how it was going to end and when I was reading the script I thought, 'Oh god, I hope we're not becoming that soap opera, that constant love triangle.' It's just going to get old too fast and it's just going to undermine these characters. So the ending, when I read it the first time I remember calling them and being like 'Oh my god, you're brilliant! Thank you!'"

Spoilers have revealed that Carey and Alicia don't come clean about their new firm right away, which means they'll be poaching lawyers while still working for their current firm and soon-to-be-former employers. Their decision to split will create a "civil war" within the firm. "I mean, there are moments where people are going to hate my character and think she's just awful and then literally the next scene, you're going to understand why she did what she did and hate Will's character and then it will flip," Margulies said in an interview. And there could be some changes in the season to come, as David Lee becomes a series regular--Margulies says his character is the most immoral one on the show--and this could be the last season for Will. "It's what Josh is about. He's someone who wants to always explore different sides of himself. And how [season five] goes helps him decide what he wants to do," said series creator King. "That sounds like there's some contentiousness in our relationship. There's not. Josh is one of the friendliest and nicest actors I've met. Anything that is contractual stays with the agents." As for the season premiere, Season 5 Episode 1 will focus on Grace's difficulty adjusting to Peter becoming the governor of Illinois. Additionally, the firm that Carey and Alicia will be starting is ready to go, but will be delayed for two reasons: Alicia wants her current case to end (she's saving a man close to receiving execution on death row) and one other reason. David Lee, who as we mentioned before is now a series regular, is becoming suspicious of the fourth-years and puts Kalinda to work to figure out what's going on. Does Kalinda reveal to David Lee what is happening? Will Alicia and Cary get caught trying to create a new firm? Find out tonight!
