CBS drama "The Good Wife" is returning to television on September 29. The season ended with a lot of uncertainties, as Alicia (Julianna Margulies) chose Peter (Chris Noth) over Will (Josh Charles) and told Carey (Matt Czuchry) that she will be on his side to leave the firm. Many fans were disappointed to see Carey at Alicia's door instead of Will but Margulies has revealed that she was happy to find out that it wasn't Will. In an interview with E!, she also sheds some light into why she believes Alicia leaves the firm. According to Margulie, Alicia leaves to get away from Will.
"I would not have been happy if it was Will," Margulies admitted. "They didn't tell me how it was going to end and when I was reading the script I thought, 'Oh god, I hope we're not becoming that soap opera, that constant love triangle.' It's just going to get old too fast and it's just going to undermine these characters. So the ending, when I read it the first time I remember calling them and being like 'Oh my god, you're brilliant! Thank you!'"
1. The season will have many famous names joining the cast. Talia Balsam has been cast as a political reporter, Melissa George will have a recurring role as Governor Florrick's in-house ethics counsel, and America Ferrera, Gary Cole, Jeffrey Tambor and Carrie Preston will be returning to the show in guest roles. Additionally, Zach Grenier, who plays David Lee, will be a series regular.
2. Last season wrapped up with Alicia making the difficult decision to leave the firm with Carey. Executive producer Robert King told reporters at the Television Critics Association press tour in Beverly Hills, California that the split from Lockhart Gardner will lead to a "civil war" and that Carey and Alicia won't be telling their bosses the truth right away. "We want to get the audience wet with this difficulty of betraying your firm," revealed King. "What we want is the quiet before the s-tstorm."
3. The creators have revealed that Peter (Chris Noth) will be surrounded by temptation this season, as he will be surrounded by beautiful women. Meandwhile, Alicia will lead life as the governor's wife. "It really challenges her moral compass as someone who always wants to do good, but it is incredibly provocative to be in a powerful situation," says Margulies of Alicia's new role.
4. Kalinda (Archie Panjabi) is a beloved character on "The Good Wife" and many fans did not approve of her story arch in season 4 with her ex-husband Nick. This season, she will have a romantic interest in a character played by Juliet Rylance and her professional life gets complicated with the firm's civil war. "Kalinda feels a little betrayed that she didn't know Alicia was leaving. There's a real tension there about the fact that Kalinda feels a little bit abandoned," executive producer Robert King says.
