Google has done it again! The company has proven they are more than just a mega search engine by adding a new feature to its Maps service. The new feature allows users to travel back in time and see what a location looked like as early as 2007.

When Google initially gathered street views for its maps service the old footage would be replaced. Now, with this latest update users will be able to visit older screenshots of whatever street view they have open. You’ll be able to see buildings rise up, seasons change, and the devastating effect of natural disasters.

With Google’s new time travel feature users can see some amazing things such as the construction of such landmarks like The Freedom Tower in New York and the World Cup Stadium in Brazil.

Google is slowly but surely rolling out the time travel feature to everyone. To know for sure if you have the feature when you’re in the street view page of Google Maps you will see a clock icon in the upper left of the screen. Clicking the clock will bring up a slider that lets you move through the various incarnations of that section of Google’s imagery.

Note that all places don’t have the time travel feature while some have a dozen different versions of Street View imagery.
