Things just keep getting worse for the Green Bay Packers.

Running back Eddie Lacy has now been placed on injured reserve according to numerous reports.

Lacy has been dealing with foot pain for a while now, and the team decided it was finally time to get surgery. The Packers will take on the Chicago Bears in a must win game on Thursday Night Football. This is terrible timing not only for the Packers for especially for Lacy. Lacy is in the final year of his rookie contract, and there’s no telling if the Packers will give him a new deal after this season.

The Packers, who are 3-2, may very well have seen this coming. Earlier this week the Packers made a deal with the Kansas City Chiefs to acquire running back Knile Davis. Davis, who is also in the final year of his contract, has seen limited carries (just 29) over the last two years. The Packers are going to need Davis to at least provide a little spark off the bench if they’re going to win the NFC North.

Lacy did in fact play with a sprained left ankle against the Dallas Cowboys last week.

It’s still unknown whether or not if Lacy will be able to return this season. If this decision turns into short-term injured reserve, Lacy may be back for Week 15. If this turns in long-term injured reserve, it means Lacy’s 2016-17 NFL season is over.

This is a tough situation for the Packers. Running back James Starks recently underwent knee surgery and will miss four weeks. The Packers running game ranks an average 16th in the NFL, but with so many injuries at the position, Head Coach Mike McCarthy is in for a challenge.
