On Sunday night NFL fans get to watch an extremely critical game between the Green Bay Packers and Washington Redskins. Both of these NFC teams are looking up at other teams in their divisions, so the playoff implications are as high as ever.

Let’s break down the teams and pick a winner.

Packers (4-5)

Something isn’t quite right with the Packers this year. A lot of NFL experts thought the Packers would have five losses the entire year, and already they have five losses. Their running game is extremely inconsistent, the secondary is getting beat down field and the Packers have now dropped three games in a row.

Thankfully for the Packers they play in a very weak NFC North division in which the Minnesota Vikings, Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears don’t show a lot of promise.

Regardless, the Packers know they have to play better, and that even goes for former MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers. This is the second of three consecutive games the Packers are playing on the road. Head Coach Mike McCarthy, who has a huge input in play calling, has been scrutinized for much for his “simple” and “obvious” decision making this season.

The biggest test for the Packers will be their secondary against the Redskins wide receivers. The Packers have numerous corners who are hurt.

Redskins (5-3-1)

It’s been a weird season for the Redskins. The last four weeks the Redskins have had a bye week, loss, win and a tie. This is their second straight game against an NFC North opponent before they take on the Dallas Cowboys in one of the most anticipated games of the year.

Every remaining game for the Redskins is against an NFC team, so the urgency is higher than ever if they want to repeat as NFC East champions. One of the biggest issues for the Redskins this season has been their defensive line’s inability to stop the run. The Redskins rank just 23rd in rushing yards allowed.

All eyes will be on Kirk Cousins, who was franchise tagged this offseason. Cousins is one of the more unpredictable quarterbacks in this league, but if he can have his way against the Packers defense, the Redskins should be able to cruise to a victory.

Schedule

The Packers and Redskins will kickoff Sunday night at 8:30 p.m. ET on NBC at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland. You can watch a live game stream here.

Prediction

The Packers have a Super Bowl MVP quarterback, but that’s hardly enough reason to pick them over the Redskins. Every week we keep thinking they are going to bounce out of this slump and it just never happens. The Redskins are at home, they are the more complete team, and they have the momentum. The Redskins should be able to defeat the Packers.
