GTA 5 Christmas DLC
"GTA 5" Festive Surprise 1.19 Update arrives Dec. 18. Rockstar Games

Earlier this week, we delivered some bad news when we reported that the long-awaited "GTA 5" Heists Update would be delayed until early 2015. The Heists DLC was initially confirmed as the first title update following the release of "GTA 5" on PS4 and Xbox One. Today we are delighted to report a silver lining: the Festive Suprise DLC represents the new "GTA 5" 1.19 Update, which means we will get new items and new features ahead of Christmas after all.

There are a lot of things to look forward to in the Festive Surprise DLC. Obviously, nothing is more exciting than the latest homing missile launcher and proximity mine weapons. Rockstar also assured that the new weapons will be a permanent item on GTA Online. A temporary Firework Launcher will also be available from Christmas Eve until January 6th

Beyond weapons, "GTA 5" Festive Surprise will also introduce new cars including the Hot Rod Christmas Ratloader, the Slam Van, as well as the Massacro and Jester sports cars with unique racing livery. The vehicles will be permanent items in verson as well.

In terms of seasonal Christmas gear, Rockstar will offer a range of festive jammies, ugly sweaters, scarves, hats, as well as masks. Be sure to keep an eye out on some Holiday Special Crate Drops from now through Jan. 5th as well.

Now that we've discussed the latest "GTA 5" Festive Surprise update for the Christmas holidays, let's go back to the state of the Heists DLC. In a Q&A with Rockstar Games, the developers answered a question that asked "What is the #GTAOnline Heist official release date?"

"We aren't ready to give an official release date yet, but we are confident they will be ready early in 2015," Rockstar responded on Newswire. "As you may have read on IGN, Heists were a much bigger challenge to create than we had originally anticipated. Early versions were simply not good enough and had to be scrapped more than once as we honed in on how we thought they should work. We're happy to say that the pack we are now finalizing is something we are excited by and eager to release as soon as it is ready.

"We, as a company, have always been about trying to make something that is good rather than hitting a date. We apologize when this gets frustrating but firmly believe that rushing out second-rate content does not do anyone any favors. Hopefully you agree that yesterday's new Trailer is a sign that Heists are shaping up nicely, but we still need some time to fine tune them. Because we need a little time to get Heists right, we are going to give you a small Christmas gift to keep you entertained until we are done with them."
