Los Angeles -- Los Angeles Police Department officer Henry Solis, 27 was off-duty when he allegedly shot and killed Salome Rodriguez Jr, 23. in Pomona, California, following a fistfight between the two men in front of a bar at 3:30 in the morning on March 13th. With the help of his father, Solis fled California and crossed through El Paso. On May 27th, Henry was arrested by Chihuahuan officials in Juarez who found him hiding out 6 miles from the border and handed over to the FBI the same day.

“I knew I’d be caught eventually,” Solis allegedly told Mexican officials when they arrested them.

In addition to the murder charges related to the Rodriguez death, Solis will face a charge for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. His father, Victor Solis, 53, will also face criminal charges. He was arrested by the FBI last month for allegedly lying to the investigators pursuing his son. Video surveillance shows Victor crossing into Juarez from El Paso with Henry on March 14th, after having allegedly told police that he dropped Henry off at a bus stop. According to the FBI, Victor eventually shared self-incriminating statements told to him by Solis.

Solis, a former Marine, was only a few months out of the LAPD academy when the shooting occurred. A probationary officer, he was quickly dismissed. LAPD officials called him a “dishonor” to the department for not cooperating the murder investigation against him. Solis served a tour of duty in Iraq as a mechanic and security guard and had earned recognition for good conduct, according to service records cited by CNN. The FBI offered a $25,000 reward for Henry Solis. It does not appear to have been paid out to any informants.
