Father Disowns Daughter

A letter written from a father to his daughter has gone viral. The man wrote what has been described as an "Epic" letter to his daughter, disowning her for being ashamed her son (the letter writer's grandson) is gay. The woman's son came out to his family, and his mother subsequently kicked him out of the house. From the context of the letter it seems the woman feels her son's sexual orientation is an "abomination." The boy's grandfather called out his daughter saying the only thing that is an "abomination" is a mother throwing her own son out onto the street.

The letter was posted to the Facebook page of a pro-gay youth organization known as FCKH8. A spokesperson for FCKH8 spoke with Yahoo News saying they contacted the author of the letter to confirm it was authentic. Since being posted on Facebook, the letter has received 13,708 likes and over 800 comments praising the grandfather for sticking up for his grandson, despite the fact it meant disowning his own daughter. In the description of the letter posted on FCKH8 the organization wrote, "Go Grandpa! This awesome note was sent in by a supporter named Chad and we're sending him a free 'Some Dudes Marry Dudes Get Over It' T-shirt."

The letter reads: Dear Christine, I'm disappointed in you as a daughter. You're correct that we have a "shame in the family," but mistaken about what it is. Kicking Chad out of your home simply because he told you he was gay is the real "abomination" here. A parent disowning her child is what goes "against nature." The only intelligent thing I heard you say in all this was that "you didn't raise your son to be gay." Of course you didn't. He was born this way and didn't choose it any more than he being left-handed. You however, have made a choice of being hurtful, narrow minded and backward. So, while we are in the business of disowning our children, I think I'll take this moment to say goodbye to you. I now have a fabulous (as the gays put it) grandson to raise, and I don't have time for a heartless B-word of a daughter. If you find your heart, give us a call. - Dad.

In March of this year, a father took a similar approach to dealing with his gay son. The man wrote his son a letter saying he had known since the boy was six that he was gay. The letter was heartfelt and touching and said the boy did not need to "plan" to tell his parents he is gay. "The only thing I need you to plan is to bring home OJ and bread after class. We are out, like you now."
