Juana Hernández, a 101 years old grandmother from Miami, pledged her allegiance to the United States of America last week, proving that one is never too old to achieve our goals. “I’m very happy,” Hernández told CBS Miami after the ceremony on December 29.

Hernández took the oath and sang the national anthem next to 140 other people from 37 different countries that also became citizens on that day. The now senior citizen was accompanied by her daughter and loved ones, who were very proud and supportive of her, “She is so excited. Very, very happy to be here, a U.S. citizen. Very happy,” her grandson Rafael Hernández told the local news. “It’s a great moment. Like you don’t know. I have goosebumps.”

“She passed the test. She passed the interview. We are very excited to have her become a citizen with the other 140 applicants,” said United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Acting Section Chief Yasser Navarrete. “Her love for this country is something I think will be very exciting for everyone involved.”

Hernández came to the U.S. just eight years ago from Honduras and wanted to become a citizen in order to be able to bring her two sons to the country. Congratulations Juana!
