The demographer and social researcher Mark McCrindle , predicts the hottest trends for baby names in 2017.

Speaking to Kidspot , McCrindle express names that start with letters X, Y and Z are going to be more popular than ever. “Parents are choosing names starting with letters that were previously very unusual,” says Mark.

“Xena, Xana and Xenia; Yena and Yasmin; Zane, Zara, Zari and Zoey ” are the names Mr. Mark McCrindle ensures will be the most trendy. He also explains short names like “Mia” and “Ava” are down compared to long names like “Charlotte”, “Amelia”, “Sofia” and “Chloe” that are up. For boys, William, Jackson and Alexander are making a comeback. Addison, Alana, various forms of Alex, Alyssa, Angelina and names in general with lots of vowels in them are going to be part of the trend towards soft names with lots of sound to them.

Culturally diverse names are a huge hit for 2017. People are choosing other cultures names rather than English names, such as “ Muhammad,” “Ali,” and “Ines.”

Also names driven by technology are on the list. “We live in this digital and connected world, and parents are going online to blogs and other digital channels to suss out names. They also think about how the name is going to work as a Facebook page or Twitter handle – basically, their child’s identity in an online world. Some parents even check if the website or Facebook name is available,” tells McCrindle.
